What Is CMMC Compliance?
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a unified, Department of Defense (DoD)–mandated framework designed to ensure that contractors properly protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Federal Contract Information (FCI). It establishes a standardized set of cybersecurity practices that every organization within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) must follow.
Unlike previous self-attestation under NIST SP 800-171, CMMC requires independent verification of a contractor’s cybersecurity posture. Every prime and subcontractor handling CUI or FCI must meet the appropriate CMMC level to remain eligible for current and future DoD contracts.
